Features: Facing another surge in translation in our country, remembering the noble mission of the translation profession and our responsibility to our colleagues in the translation field, we have solemnly launched this "Translation Theory and Practice Series" on the basis of summarizing experience and promoting achievements. Our idea is: to strengthen independent planning, reflect the new tasks and characteristics of translation in the information age and market economy, continue to promptly reflect new trends in translation studies, literary translation, and translation teaching, and pay more attention to the practical aspects of technical translation, legal translation, business translation, news translation, and other fields. We aim to enhance targetedness and improve practicality, giving equal importance to translation from foreign languages to Chinese and from Chinese to foreign languages.
After the publication of Discussions on Word Translation, three years later, it had been printed and distributed in a simple and concise format, reaching a total of 80,000 copies. Over the past 15 years, with the assistance or collaboration of my wife, Wu Youjuan, I have continued to observe and collect translation materials, writing short essays and word pieces as they come. Like Discussions on Word Translation 15 years ago, Continuation is also divided into several chapters, namely: General Principles, Food and Drink, Legal System, English Miscellany, New Knowledge Records, Daily Life, and Random Notes. Each chapter has a detailed outline, allowing readers to follow the index and select chapters according to their time constraints.
