Features: [In a secluded courtyard of the Eurasian Association in Beijing, Yan Baohang rented a room. The wall of the room hung a banner reading "Second Anniversary of the 'September 18th' National Humiliation Day," with portraits of Yue Fei and Guan Yu hanging beneath it. Two large round tables were arranged in the room, with over twenty people seated around them. Only teapots and teacups were on the tables, and the atmosphere was solemn. Gao Chongmin was standing and delivering a speech.
Gao Chongmin: Comrades! Friends! Today marks the second anniversary of the "September 18th" Incident. We have chosen this day of national humiliation, which is also the anniversary of the loss of our homeland for the Northeasterners, to hold the founding meeting of the "Recover Northeast Association." This is to inspire ourselves and never forget the national and familial grievances! First, let us express our deep sympathy for the thirty million compatriots in Northeast China suffering under the iron hooves of the Japanese invaders, and our firm resolve to rescue them. Please stand and offer three bows toward the northeast. Bow! Bow! Bow again! Please sit down.
Gao Chongmin: Today, we have also invited two revered deities: Yue Fei and Guan Yu, to be with us. Why? Because we must inherit and carry forward the fine traditions of our nation. Yue Fei was a national hero who resisted foreign aggression and set an inspiring example of "dedicating oneself to the nation." Guan Yu, in order to restore the Han dynasty, sworn brotherhood with Liu Bei and Zhang Fei in the Peach Garden, vowing to share life and death. We, too, must unite as one and vow to do the same to reclaim our homeland. At the same time, to achieve our goal, we must endure hardships and prepare for a long struggle. Now, let us take the gallbladders of pigs before Yue Fei and Guan Yu and take the oath of drinking gallwater.
[ Yan Baohang held up a pig gallbladder for everyone to see. Lu Guangji served two large bowls of plain water. Yan Baohang used a knife to pierce the gallbladder and dripped several drops into each bowl. Then the two of them poured some of the water into each person's teacup.
Gao Chongmin: Please stand and take the oath before Yue Fei and Guan Yu! (Right hand raised in a fist)
[Everyone followed suit, raising their fists.
Gao Chongmin: United as one, die for the nation!
[The crowd: United as one, die for the nation!
Gao Chongmin: Never give up until our goal is achieved!
[The crowd: Never give up until our goal is achieved!
Gao Chongmin: Cheers!
[Everyone raised their cups and drank them down. P58-59]
