Features: This book is divided into four chapters and can be logically divided into two parts. The first part examines and discusses the "no east, no market" pattern that reflected the relationship between the Cantonese merchants entering Guangxi and the economic development of Guangxi's towns during the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China period. The author argues that: during this period, the entry of Cantonese merchants into Guangxi did not cease but rather increased, with their population continuously expanding and growing; Cantonese merchants consistently maintained a dominant position in Guangxi's urban economy, remaining the primary creators and operators of the basic industries in urban economies, which held a core status in the entire urban economic sector of Guangxi; the distribution pattern of Cantonese merchants progressing from east to west and becoming denser in the east and sparser in the west determined the eastward tilt of Guangxi's urban economy, with eastern cities serving as the center, presenting a layout structure of "no market not tending east" – in summary, the author believes that Cantonese merchants were the main driving force behind the development of Guangxi's urban economy. The second part explores the roots of the relationship between Cantonese-Hong Kong merchants and Guangxi's urban economy during the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China period. The author argues that during this period, the formation of the radiation source of Cantonese-Hong Kong goods laid the material foundation for the continuous entry of Cantonese-Hong Kong merchants into Guangxi, while the full development of urban economic industries in Cantonese-Hong Kong provided the support for the origin of the basic industries created by Cantonese merchants entering Guangxi to develop. The author of this book has collected and utilized a large amount of original materials, adopting research methods of regional economics, attempting to scientifically describe and explore the relationship between Cantonese-Hong Kong merchants and the development of Guangxi's urban economy during the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China period, and revealing the roots of its formation, thereby exploring the trends of Guangxi's economic development layout in the 21st century. The author's research has practical significance for Guangxi's development in the new era.
