Features: Theme stocks refer to those that are easily manipulated by speculators, leading to significant price fluctuations. Due to their high volatility, speculators can earn substantial profits in a short period by trading and manipulating such stocks. The trading strategy for theme stocks is as follows:
- Target low-priced tech stocks as your entry point. Because of their price overvaluation, they offer room for imagination. Once the main force (major players) enters, the percentage of price fluctuation can be extremely high. Investors should boldly chase gains when the theme is still obscure.
- Choose stocks that have both advantages and disadvantages. The main force will exploit different fundamental factors to create significant price swings, as illustrated in the case of Shenzhen Development Bank A in Chapter 3 of this book, where in April 2005, the stock was manipulated through a combination of positive (restructuring) news and negative bad debt provisions to create a large volume of trading.
- Choose new issues or tech stocks. These stocks have a vague positioning and are difficult to accurately value, making them suitable for short-term operations by institutional investors.
- Choose stocks of companies undergoing restructuring. Restructuring is a form of policy support for crisis-ridden enterprises, aimed at protecting the interests of small and medium-sized investors. Since it does not affect the index, it is often used by the main force to operate short-term trading waves in a bear market.
The Chinese stock market often exhibits the following characteristics:
- Technology stocks are favored in the first half of the year, restructuring stocks in the second half, new issues in the early stages of a market rally, and performance stocks in the later stages.
- When dealing with theme stocks, investors generally should avoid stocks that have been resistant to declines in the past one or two years but are currently experiencing short-term rallies, as they are highly likely to get stuck at high prices, making it difficult to break even for two or three years.
