Features: Starting from the first photograph in 1822, camera photography has actually driven many historical changes. The birth of film, the development of astronomical photography, the documentation of biological sciences, the application in newspaper media, and so on. However, what was most impacted at that time was the field of painting. Looking through A Collector's Guide to Classic Cameras, it feels particularly interesting. The book is roughly divided into three parts. The first part is a brief chronology of camera development, with many photographs of classic cameras or supplementary images interspersed alongside the timeline. The second part focuses on the structure, film, or functions of cameras, each written as an in-depth introduction. The third part is a series of important key stories in the history of camera development, resembling a biography. Without a doubt, the greatest feature of this book is the illustrated guide, with photographs of various classic cameras accompanied by appropriate text explanations, making everything clear at a glance. This is a concise yet elegant camera encyclopaedia. For professionals, it is undoubtedly an excellent reference book, but for outsiders, it not only enriches the history of cameras but also naturally induces a sense of mental wandering. Looking at early bellows folding cameras, I recall the cartoon Little Ying's Story about traveling Europe with such camera equipment; seeing illustrations of early outdoor photography, where photographers even set up tents for developing photos as darkrooms, or depicting a photographer carrying a large load of photographic equipment, it becomes easy to understand why cameras evolved towards being lightweight and compact; reading about George Eastman, the founder of Kodak, developing the roll film and the marketing slogan "You press the button, we do the rest," I realize how the reproduction of photographs transformed into "mass production." However, in the current era of instant cameras and polaroids, photographs have once again returned to being the sole presentation of distant things. So, do these images still hold a certain spiritual essence?
Note: The original Chinese text contains repeated phrases (e.g., "," "," "") that appear to be typos or placeholders. These have been retained in the translation as they were not specified for replacement.
