Features: As a Chinese intellectual with modern awareness and considerable traditional values, as well as a liberal member of the Kuomintang and a private newspaper publisher, Yu Jizhong's journalistic philosophy underwent four stages: formation, confirmation, development, and sublimation. Before the lifting of the press ban, he actively advocated the journalistic philosophy of "seeking progress through enlightenment and rationality, loving the country with freedom and democracy." After the lifting of the press ban, it evolved and sublimated into "political democracy, national identity, and stability of the overall situation." He pursued national unity, demonstrating a profound patriotic sentiment, which made China Times a pillar of Taiwan's social discourse, a defender of social justice, and a model and innovator in the media. At the same time, due to the limitations of the era, environment, and political stance, Yu Jizhong's journalistic philosophy and practice also had certain biases and shortcomings. This book attempts to systematically and comprehensively study Yu Jizhong's journalistic philosophy reflected in his journalistic practice after the lifting of the press ban in Taiwan, revealing the role and impact of his journalistic philosophy on Taiwan's social openness and democratization transformation.
