Blood-Soaked Eight Years
China was the earliest participant and the longest-serving combatant in World War II. From the Marco Polo Bridge Incident to Japan's surrender, it was a blood-soaked eight years; from the September 18th Incident to the Chinese people's eventual victory over Japanese aggression, it spanned 14 years. The Nationalist government received military aid from countries like the Soviet Union and the United States, but it was far from sufficient to meet the demands of the war. The enemy resistance led by the Communist Party of China had no external aid and relied entirely on its own armed forces. Under harsh conditions, it endured immense sacrifices. During World War II, China was one of the countries with the highest casualties. The number of casualties reached 35 million, accounting for 40% of the total casualties in the war. On the Chinese battlefield, more than 4.55 million Japanese soldiers were killed or captured. The Soviet Union destroyed approximately 700,000 Japanese soldiers in the Far East theater, while the United States and the United Kingdom eliminated 1.247 million Japanese soldiers in the Pacific theater, totaling 6.49 million Japanese soldiers destroyed. Due to China's persistent long-term resistance, it tied up 70% of Japan's main forces, disrupting Japan's strategic plans to quickly conquer China and advance northward and southward. Japan had to admit that the most formidable enemy was the Communist Party of China's Eighth Route Army. On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the victory in the anti-fascist war, this book is launched to help the broad readership understand that the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression was the first anti-foreign invasion war in modern Chinese history to end in victory. It serves as an excellent teaching material for patriotism and revolutionary heroism education for the youth, as well as a valuable resource for strengthening the construction of spiritual civilization.
