Why does a baby's stool turn milky white?

Patient's question:

My child just turned one this month, and he has been drinking formula + rice porridge (no other complementary foods added) so far. Last night, I gave him a little bit of rice and braised eggs. This morning, I noticed his stool was watery and dark green. At noon, it was the same. I thought it might be a bit of diarrhea, but by the afternoon, he had a pure white, sticky stool that looked like cottage cheese, with small granular particles in it. It startled me because I've never seen this before. What could be the reason for this? Is there any potential underlying condition in the child?

Doctor's answer:

Symptoms like this primarily require an ultrasound to rule out biliary obstruction. In children, digestive issues are common. It is recommended to drink more water to prevent dehydration, pay attention to keeping the baby's abdomen warm, and seek medical treatment promptly if the condition does not improve. Additionally, drinking some water or fruit and vegetable juice between meals is beneficial. In terms of supplementary feeding, diversification is important, and you can also add a milk supplement to the formula. It is advisable to have a medical examination at the hospital for a better diagnosis.
