Features: This textbook (Second Edition) primarily selects vocabulary based on the "Outline for Chinese Language Proficiency Vocabulary and Character Grades" published by the National Office for Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, focusing on Level D vocabulary. It also includes some frequently used and easily confused Level C words, as well as a selection of common idioms. This new edition of the textbook is divided into four units, containing 12 lessons in total, with each lesson limited to approximately 1,800 words and about 35 vocabulary items. Between each unit, there is an introduction related to spoken language, designed to broaden students' knowledge and deepen their understanding of spoken Chinese. This new edition retains some of the original textbook's topics, with more focused character relationships and more prominent language appropriateness. Most of the lesson content has been thoroughly updated. The lessons follow a typical Chinese family as the main storyline, unfolding the plot in a quasi-dramatic format, covering various aspects of Chinese families and society. The scenarios and characters selected in the book emphasize both typicality and diversity, with each character given distinct personalities, backgrounds, experiences, and language styles. The language is lively, natural, and appropriate, fitting the characters' identities. Learners can immerse themselves in the characters and experience Chinese families and society, thereby deepening their understanding of Chinese society and learning authentic spoken language. This new edition of the textbook highlights practicality in exercise design, enhancing input and output training with a focus on paragraph-level expression exercises. It systematically arranges a substantial number of narrative, retelling, lecture, and debate topics to effectively improve students' ability to express themselves fluently and coherently in longer passages. The new edition also includes exercises on sentence pattern expression. The exercises are divided into three parts: "Text Part" focuses on understanding the text content and applying text vocabulary; "Sentence Pattern Part" selects more complex sentence patterns from the text for language structure-based training; while "Discussion and Survey" emphasizes paragraph-level expression training, allowing students ample room for full expression.
