● The former residence of Wu Yipeng, a Ming Dynasty official serving in the Ministry of Personnel in Nanjing, known as Yuhantang. It covers an area of over 5,000 square meters and has a construction area of over 6,000 square meters. It is the largest ancient architectural complex outside Suzhou. Inside, the Taohuwood Woodblock Print Studio not only comprehensively showcases the Taohuwood Woodblock Prints, which originated in Shantang and have been nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage site, but also demonstrates the complex process of creating these prints.
● The Shantang Cultural Heritage Hall accurately replicates the ancient Shantang. Using modern exhibition techniques and high-tech holographic or imaging methods, it vividly recreates the 1,700-year historical changes and cultural atmosphere of Shantang. Especially the "holographic imaging" project, which cost millions, features a unique presentation and an intriguing storyline, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the hustle and bustle of "Shen Zhou Street" in just 8 minutes. Here, you can also see the classic works and live demonstrations by the top-level Suzhou embroidery master, Ren Caoxian.
● Tonggui Bridge is a single-arched stone stair bridge, first built in the 13th year of the Chongzhen era during the Ming Dynasty. It is one of the representative bridges of Suzhou. The bridge resembles a bright moon, with its arch and its reflection in the water forming a perfect circle. The high and low, the curved and straight, the virtual and the real, the hidden and the revealed, the bright and the dark—all harmoniously unite, creating a fascinating contrast. It is an excellent place to appreciate the scenery of Suzhou's waterways, especially on nights with a full moon, when the moonlight and lantern light sway in the Shantang River, offering an unforgettable experience.
● The Shantang Ancient Opera Stage is built in a Tang-style architectural style. There are many ancient opera stages in Suzhou, but most are hidden in deep courtyards or gardens. The Shantang Ancient Opera Stage is the only one located on a bustling street, making it the true place for the common people to watch "free performances." Today, the stage often features performances by renowned artists and amateurs, while the side rooms on either side of the stage display photographs, masks, and costumes of the world heritage Kunqu Opera, allowing visitors to get close to this theatrical genre known as the "living fossil."
● Shantang Pavilion Art Museum Suzhou is the birthplace of the Wu painting school. During the Ming Dynasty, famous painters such as Tang Bohu, Zhu Zhishan, Shen Zhou, Wen Zhengming, and Qiu Ying were all from Suzhou. At that time, painters often traveled together from Shantang to Huqiu, composing poems and painting the beautiful scenery along the way. The Shantang Pavilion Art Museum showcases the works of the new generation of Wu artists through exhibitions and salons. P46
