Features: The Medical Laws and Precepts (Yi Men Fa Lü) was written by the renowned Ming and early Qing Dynasty physician Yu Chang and completed in the 15th year of the Shunzhi reign (1658). This book combines clinical syndromes to explain the principles of syndrome differentiation and treatment (fa), and clearly identifies common errors doctors make in this process, along with prohibitions (lü), hence the title Laws and Precepts. The book consists of six volumes. Volume 1 elaborates on the laws of the four diagnostic methods and the treatment principles from the Internal Canon and the Treatise on Cold Damage, followed by the sayings of past scholars. Volumes 2 to 4 separately discuss the six external pathogenic factors of cold injury, stroke, heat-dampness-summerheat, and dry injury. Volumes 5 to 6 cover common internal medicine conditions such as malaria, dysentery, phlegm retention, cough, jaundice, diabetes, consumptive diseases, edema, and lung abscess and atrophy. Under each category, it first cites classical texts and personal insights to discuss the etiology, pathogenesis, and treatment of each syndrome, followed by legal provisions to warn doctors of key issues to pay attention when treating the disease. Finally, it includes therapeutic formulas. The book contains a total of 434 formulas. Rich in content and insightful, it gained widespread acclaim in the medical community upon publication and was widely disseminated. This edition is based on the Jisi Tang printing of Chen Family in Liqian from the 30th year of the Qianlong reign (1965) and was meticulously collated. A preface has been added for guidance, and an index of formulas is provided at the end for easy reference. This book is of great reference value for clinical Chinese medicine practitioners and can also be read by Chinese medicine enthusiasts.
