What should you do when a child has a seizure?

Patient's question:

My daughter had a severe cold and fever a while ago, which led to an episode of epilepsy. Today marks the second time it has occurred. Each time she has seizures, she experiences and. I am always startled by these symptoms and don't know how to care for her during these episodes. Now, I really want to learn how to properly care for her.

Doctor's answer:

Treatment of Seizures
1. When a seizure occurs, quickly have the patient lie on their back without a pillow. Use gauze (or a toothbrush) to wrap around the upper and lower teeth to prevent them from biting their tongue. Then release it. Loosen the collar, tilt the patient's head to one side so that oral secretions can drain out naturally, preventing saliva from entering the respiratory tract and causing aspiration pneumonia. At the same time, lift the patient's lower jaw to prevent the tongue from obstructing the trachea due to neck compression. Do not force water or press limbs hard during the seizure. Stimulate or press acupoints such as He Gu (LI4), Zu San Li (ST36), and Yong Quan.
Generally, excessive physical labor, intense mental exertion, and strenuous exercise should be avoided. Try to minimize stress, sadness, grief, and excitement. Life should be regular, with a fixed work schedule.
