Features: This study adopts perspectives from history, philosophy, and education, employing a historical and dialectical stance, viewpoint, and methodology. By delving into the evolution of the relationship between liberal arts education and scientific education in Western universities, it argues from the perspectives of human subjectivity and knowledge forms about the necessity, inevitability, and possibility of integrating liberal arts and scientific education in universities. It also outlines the pathways for such integration. Based on an analysis of the historical and current relationship between liberal arts and scientific education in Chinese universities, it proposes several constructive ideas to advance their integration. From the perspective of human subjectivity, the Greeks emphasized the balanced development of reason and irrationality, though with a tendency toward reason. From the perspective of knowledge forms, science and the humanities are like spring orchids and autumn chrysanthemums, each with its own strengths. Scientific knowledge has its own characteristics, as do humanistic knowledge.
