Patient's question:
NoDoctor's answer:
Bacterial vaginosis is a mixed infection caused by the imbalance of normal vaginal flora, but there are no changes in clinical and pathological findings. Anaerobic bacteria are predominant, and the exact cause is not entirely clear. Some individuals are asymptomatic, while those with symptoms primarily experience increased vaginal discharge with a fishy odor, external itching, or burning sensation, which worsens after sexual intercourse. The first-line treatment is oral metronidazole 400 mg, taken 2-3 times daily for 7 days. Local application of metronidazole effervescent tablets 200 mg, used once nightly for 7-10 days, is also recommended. The cure rate is approximately 80%. During pregnancy, oral metronidazole is often used for treatment.
