Features: The author, Professor Luo Changpei, is an outstanding linguist in China. He is an expert in phonetics and the history of phonology, while also having broad interests in the field of linguistics. He was deeply concerned with the relationship between language and culture and has written numerous articles on the subject. These articles were published in 1950 under the title Language and Culture. At that time, only a few thousand copies were printed and distributed to friends, but they quickly sold out. Now, with the consent of Professor Luo's family, the Language and Literature Press has decided to reprint and publish this book. The first edition contained some printing errors and some translations that differ from the current standard usage. Additionally, some issues remained unresolved due to incomplete materials, as evidenced by the annotations from several scholars in a copy preserved by Professor Luo. Before this reprinting, Professor Ji Xianlin was requested to have Professor Wang Danyan of the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures at Peking University carefully proofread the text. We believe this revised edition is significantly better than the first, but we cannot guarantee it is entirely free of errors. If readers discover any mistakes, please let us know so they can be corrected in future reprints. As for the academic value of this book, Professor Xing Gongwan's preface has already elaborated on it. Readers are invited to refer to it.
