Publish Date: 1999-12-01
Features: The Confucian "Thirteen Classics" are the most important classics in traditional Chinese culture and have had a profound impact on the traditional culture of the Chinese nation. The "Thirteen Classics with Annotations and Explanations" consists of 416 volumes, collecting thirteen Confucian classics and the annotations and explanations by Confucian scholars from the Han Dynasty to the Song Dynasty on the Thirteen Classics. Although there have been various editions of the text of the "Thirteen Classics" over the centuries, their annotations and explanations have never been systematically and comprehensively compiled. The newly published annotated edition of the "Thirteen Classics with Annotations and Explanations" is based on the Qing Dynasty edition by Ruan Yuan. The compilation work includes three aspects: the collation fully absorbs the achievements of Ruan Yuan's "Annotations on the Collation of the Thirteen Classics with Annotations and Explanations" and Sun Yirang's "Notes on the Thirteen Classics with Annotations and Explanations," and also selectively incorporates the collation, dialectical, textual comparison, and error correction achievements of modern and contemporary academia on the "Thirteen Classics" and their annotations and explanations. The entire book is uniformly standardized with punctuation. The text of the entire book is carefully reviewed and strictly processed. The value and influence of the "Thirteen Classics" are immense, and the content they cover is extremely broad. The compilation work is highly challenging. The publication of the new annotated edition fills a gap in academic research.
