Features: Comrade Zhao Shouyan was engaged in the organization, research, and publication of Chinese ancient books for a long time. He worked at Zhonghua Book Company for many years and served as its deputy chief editor. He passed away on April 13, 1994. In memory of Comrade Zhao Shouyan's contributions to the research and organization of ancient books and his work at Zhonghua Book Company, we have specially invited Comrade Zhao Heng and Comrade Wu Liyu to edit and compile his writings into a collection titled Collected Works of Zhao Shouyan, for reference by scholars and the publishing industry. In his spare time, Comrade Zhao Shouyan engaged in the study of the history of the Sui and Tang dynasties. He was knowledgeable in both literature and history, rigorous in his scholarship, insightful, and well-versed in historical materials. In the dozens of specialized papers he published, whether in theoretical discussions or in the verification of materials, he has maintained significant academic value in the study of the Sui and Tang dynasties to this day. The editions he annotated, such as Record of Court and Streets and Examination Records, are also high-quality works in the organization of ancient books.
