Does a diagnostic D&C hurt?

Patient's question:

No

Doctor's answer:

Dilation and curettage (D&C), also known as diagnostic curettage, is a procedure where the contents of the uterine cavity are scraped for pathological examination to assist in diagnosis. If cervical lesions are suspected, the cervix and uterine cavity need to be scraped step by step, which is called fractional curettage. The procedure is usually performed within 3 days before the menstrual period or within 12 hours of its onset. Contraception should be used during the month of the procedure, sexual activity should be avoided one week before the surgery, and the procedure must be performed without reproductive tract inflammation.
It hurts, but it can be tolerated. If you are sensitive to pain, anesthesia can be used.
