Patient's question:
The baby still cannot walk now. It falls down after walking a few steps. It speaks slowly and unclearly. Its pronunciation is not clear. Its reaction is relatively slow. It often drools. It always has a hanging head. It looks less sharp. The baby went to the hospital for a check-up. The doctor said it was infantile cerebral palsy and needed treatment. What causes infantile cerebral palsy?Doctor's answer:
The causes of cerebral palsy in children are generally divided into three categories:1. Prenatal Factors
(1) Maternal Factors: According to an analysis by an American research group, maternal intellectual disability is the main risk factor for cerebral palsy, accounting for 2.7‰ of cases. The second risk factor is maternal complications during childbirth. While maternal smoking does not have a direct relationship with cerebral palsy in offspring, women who smoke are twice as likely to give birth to low-weight babies compared to non-smokers. Maternal epilepsy, pre-pregnancy hyperthyroidism, or having had two or more miscarriages are significantly associated with cerebral palsy. Interestingly, maternal diabetes is unrelated to cerebral palsy. Additionally, prenatal abdominal or pelvic X-ray exposure, coagulation disorders, nephritis, tuberculosis, gonorrhea, syphilis, smooth muscle disease, asthma, organic heart disease, and rheumatic fever are all unrelated to cerebral palsy.
