Patient's question:
Hello! I would like to ask the doctor that I am 46 years old this year, my head has been hurting very badly recently, brain swelling, dizziness.Doctor's answer:
Divided into non-surgical treatment and surgical treatment. Typically, non-surgical treatment should be the first approach for mild hydrocephalus, including dehydration treatment and systemic supportive therapy. Patients with high intracranial pressure (greater than 250 mmH2O) or those who fail to respond to non-surgical treatment should undergo surgical intervention. Severe hydrocephalus, such as cases with a head circumference exceeding 50 cm, cortical atrophy thinner than 1 cm, and already accompanied by severe functional impairment and deformities, often results in poor surgical outcomes. Cerebrospinal fluid shunting is commonly used in surgical methods, such as ventriculostomy, ventriculoperitoneal shunting, and ventriculosagittal sinus shunting. The latter method is safer with fewer complications and is more widely used. The shunt tube used is a device equipped with a reservoir and an X-ray–impermeable pressure valve to facilitate fluoroscopic examination.
