What is a teratoma in the attachment?

Patient's question:

What is a teratoma in the attachment?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, during the development of human embryos, there is a type of multipotent cell with the potential for multi-directional development. Under normal embryonic development, these cells develop and differentiate into mature cells of various germ layers. If, during different periods of embryonic development, certain multipotent cells are separated or detached from the whole, causing mutations in their genes and abnormal differentiation, embryonic abnormalities can occur. It is generally believed that if such separation or detachment occurs in the early stages of embryonic development, it leads to the formation of teratomas; whereas if it occurs in the later stages of embryonic development, it results in the formation of abnormal differentiated tissues with three germ layers—ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm—known as teratomas.
