Features: Since the 1970s, environmental protection has generally become a fundamental function of governments worldwide and a shared endeavor of society as a whole. The field of environmental protection is forming a structure led by the government and centered on society. Based on issues in China's environmental regulation, such as the unscientific allocation of environmental protection functions, the singularity of environmental management methods, low efficiency in environmental regulation, and inconsistent rights and responsibilities in environmental protection, this book proposes a theoretical framework to address these problems: First, optimize the government's macro-level environmental protection functions by leveraging the implementation of the sustainable development strategy and the scientific development concept. Second, improve government environmental management measures by establishing diversified environmental management methods. Third, strengthen the government's environmental protection responsibilities by centering on the government's accountability for environmental quality. Finally, establish social mechanisms for environmental protection on the premise of safeguarding citizens' environmental rights, achieving interaction between the government and civil society. The central theme of this book is the integration and interaction of environmental regulation and environmental democracy. It is believed that this new research approach will provide readers with a fresh perspective.
