What is the reason for dry yellow liquid in a child's stool?

Patient's question:

My child is 11 years old. They have dry stools, and after defecation, yellow liquid is discharged, followed by a few drops of fresh blood that do not mix with the stool. There is no pain in the anus. What could be the reason?
Current general condition: Normal
Medical history: None

Doctor's answer:

After the child's digestive function stabilizes, children who drink formula milk tend to have more frequent bowel movements. The stool consistency is harder, yellower, and has a stronger odor compared to that of breastfed children. Sometimes you may notice that the child's stool is soft, like the texture of a soft-boiled egg. However, normal stool should be firm. The solution is to give the child more water: add extra water to the regular formula milk. Between feedings, you can also give the child more cool boiled water. After the child is a few months old, you can add some prune juice or filtered fruit juice to the drinking water to prevent constipation. There is no need to add sugar to the milk the child drinks. If sugar is added, or if the milk contains a high sugar content, the child's stool will definitely become looser, greener, or curdled.
