What causes a baby to cry at night?

Patient's question:

These four nights, she kept crying uncontrollably in the second half of the night, even after being given food. She would just cry with her eyes squeezed shut, and no matter how you tried to comfort her, it didn't work. During the day, she ate normally.

Doctor's answer:

If you sleep too long during the day, you won't want to go to sleep at night. Without being coaxed or carried by adults, the child will cry and fuss endlessly. Additionally, adults, after being tired all day, are less sensitive to their child's hunger or the need for urination and defecation compared to daytime. If the situation is not addressed promptly, it can also cause the child to cry and fuss. Children with rickets, due to a lack of calcium in their bodies, are easily startled and often wake up crying at the slightest noise during the night. Children suffering from chronic diseases such as tuberculosis or malnutrition also frequently cry at night.
