What is happening below the urethral meatus in children

Patient's question:

This issue of hypospadias in children is quite troublesome: My child underwent hypospadias surgery at the age of 3 and a half. Now at 6 years old, he urinates 1-2 times every night. However, after falling on his buttocks the previous day, he now experiences nocturnal enuresis 5-6 times every night. I would like to ask for advice on how to deal with hypospadias in children.

Doctor's answer:

During the abdominal embryonic development process, the development and fusion of the ventral urogenital groove in the male lower body are influenced by the pituitary gland and androgens. If androgen deficiency occurs, the fusion of the folds on both sides of the urogenital groove is impaired, leading to a defect in the anterior wall of the urethra. The urethra opens behind the normal urethral meatus on the ventral side of the male lower body, forming hypospadias. Hypospadias can be surgically treated in the urology department of a local regular hospital. After treatment, recovery is good.
