Features: This book is a treatise on the theory and practice of urban management. Scientifically defining the concept of urban management is the foundation of this study; constructing a scientific system and research framework for urban management is the core of this research; integrating theory with practice is a key method of this study. The author first starts from the background of the emergence of the concept of urban management, summarizing and reviewing current domestic and international practices in urban management. The focus is on analyzing the reasons for misconceptions, and through an exploration of the theoretical foundations of urban management, scientifically defining the concept and connotation of urban management. On this basis, the book proposes a scientific system for urban management: "Goals (Value Orientation) – Core Elements – Policies and Guarantees," with the comprehensive competitiveness of urban management as the ultimate goal and value orientation.
Further, taking this as a starting point, the book elaborates on the core elements and management strategies of urban management from the macro and micro perspectives of urban management. It also proposes the establishment of urban management guarantee mechanisms using "urban planning" as a platform. The macro urban management focuses on "urban management" as its core, creating a soft and hard environment for the city from the perspectives of the overall development strategy, urban brand, and the three major systems of society, economy, and environment, thereby enhancing the city's comprehensive competitiveness. The micro urban management focuses on "urban white lines" as its core, constructing three major core elements of urban management: "operational resources, quasi-operational resources, and non-operational resources." It clarifies the respective management strategies for each, achieving the efficient and harmonious development of the city.
At the end of the treatise, the author analyzes practical cases of urban management, substantiating the theoretical system proposed earlier and further clarifying the ideas and methods of urban management.
