Patient's question:
The left and right sides show acceptable divergence of waves I, III, and V. The latency of each wave and the interpeak latencies of I-III, III-V, and I-V are prolonged. Auditory brainstem response threshold: V wave is visible at 25 dB on both sides. Note: Abnormal brainstem auditory evoked potential, recommend periodic follow-up.Doctor's answer:
The brainstem auditory evoked potential (BAEP) test involves artificially administering sound stimuli. It records the generated potential signals on the head to determine if there are any abnormalities in the auditory nerve pathway. It does not involve craniotomy and is a very routine examination. Wave 4 is generally not examined clinically. The reason is that these two waves are produced during the conduction process. There is significant variation in latency, amplitude, and repeatability among individuals. Therefore, they are mostly not considered. If, according to the report, Wave 4 is used as the endpoint, the interwave intervals become disordered, and there are no reference normal values. Thus, this result is difficult to interpret.
