Features: Currently, primary school teachers and students in China urgently need innovative, lively English teaching materials that align with the physical, mental, and cognitive development of Chinese children. New Century Primary English (NelcometoEnglish) is a revised version by Longman, following the huge success of WelcometoEnglish in Hong Kong primary schools. It is equally suitable for schools in China that offer primary English courses. Teachers and students who have tried this series of textbooks will find that it is richly illustrated, humorous, and highly engaging, making it excellent for sparking and maintaining students' interest in learning. FLTRP and Hunan Children's Publishing House have jointly introduced this series of textbooks, based on the understanding that maintaining students' strong interest in English during the primary school stage is more important than teaching them hundreds of words. This series is divided into 6 levels, with each level consisting of two books (A and B). For this introduction, we have first brought in the student books for levels 1–3, along with (audio cassettes), family workbooks, and test papers. Each level also includes one listening textbook and its (audio cassettes), along with (teacher's book). These materials are suitable for fourth-grade students in six-year-old primary schools or third-grade students in five-year-old primary schools. Each unit of the textbook mainly includes the following content:
- ‘Talking about the picture’ (): This section helps students preview new words that appear in Fun Reading.
- ‘Learn these sentences’ (): This section highlights the main grammar points of the unit.
- ‘Fun Reading’ (): This section revisits learned words and grammar structures in an engaging context. At the same time, it guides students to develop the habit of reading English by using familiar comic strips. This is a crucial stage for improving reading skills and laying a foundation for future learning.
- ‘Dialogues’ (): This section allows students to practice communicative dialogues by providing simple personal information to achieve communication goals.
- ‘Rhymes’ (): This section fully reflects the edutainment (education through entertainment) feature of this series of textbooks.
- ‘Finish the sentences’ (): This section asks students to write the missing words to complete sentences.
- ‘Tasks’ (): This section encourages students to practice exercises based on the language they have already learned, without requiring additional preparation.
