Patient's question:
I was injected with pethidine one hour before giving birth, and the baby had a bluish complexion immediately after birth, crying restlessly. Then, the baby was sent to the NICU. Now, it has been diagnosed as wet lung. What are the causes of the baby's wet lung?Doctor's answer:
Because the fetal lungs are filled with fluid. During normal delivery, the baby passes through the narrow birth canal. When the head is delivered and the chest is compressed, about 1/2 to 2/3 of the alveolar fluid is squeezed out of the body. After the baby starts to breathe, air enters the alveoli. The remaining alveolar fluid is then absorbed by the alveolar wall capillaries. If there is too much fluid in the alveoli and interstitial tissue, or if absorption is delayed, or if fluid transport is difficult.
