Features: For the friends who spread Marxist-Leninist thought in Xinjiang, when you open the scroll of modern historical figures in Xinjiang, one name stands out, a name that will never be forgotten by the people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang. This resounding name is Yu Xiusong. Yu Xiusong, originally named Shousong, styled Baqing, was from Zhuji County, Zhejiang Province. In 1920, at the age of 21, he joined the founding of the Shanghai initiator group of the Communist Party of China, becoming one of the earliest members of our party. That same year in August, he founded the Chinese Socialist Youth League (the predecessor of the Communist Youth League of China) in Shanghai and served as its secretary. The following year, he went to Moscow to attend the second conference of the International Youth League. In October 1925, he was sent to the Moscow Oriental University, Sun Yat-sen University, and Lenin College in the Soviet Union for study and teaching, and served as a committee member of the CPC branch in Moscow. During this period, he was targeted and sidelined for opposing and resisting Wang Ming's factionalism and the "Left" adventurist line. In 1933, he was sent to Blagoveshchensk in the Far East of the Soviet Union to serve as the deputy editor of the Chinese-language Worker's Road. In June 1935, he was sent by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union to Xinjiang to carry out united front work with Sheng Shicai, the frontier defense supervisor of Xinjiang, for a period of two years. He served as the secretary-general of the Xinjiang People's Anti-Imperialist League, the president of Xinjiang College, the principal of the provincial school, the deputy director of the Political Training Department of the Supervisory Office, and the political instructor of the aviation school and the military academy. For such a pioneer of the Chinese Communist cause, you must also want to know how he engaged in revolutionary activities in Xinjiang for more than two years.
Reorganizing the Anti-Imperialist League to Promote Marxist-Leninism
After a group of CPC members, including Yu Xiusong, arrived in Xinjiang from the Soviet Union, their main task was to assist Sheng Shicai, the then pro-Soviet supervisor of Xinjiang, in establishing a stable and pro-Soviet progressive regime in Xinjiang to prevent Japanese and British imperialist forces from entering the region. As soon as he arrived in Xinjiang, he worked with other communists to reorganize the "Xinjiang People's Anti-Imperialist League" (hereinafter referred to as the Anti-Imperialist League). Sheng Shicai was appointed as president, and Yu Xiusong as secretary-general, responsible for daily operations. The departments of organization, publicity, youth, public, and culture were all led by communists. Under Yu Xiusong's leadership, the Anti-Imperialist League became a political organization with clear views, a strict organization, and sound institutions. The Anti-Imperialist League provided a broad mass foundation and strong organizational guarantees for the revolutionary activities of the CPC members like Yu Xiusong. Yu Xiusong regarded the promotion and implementation of the "Six Great Policies" (anti-imperialism, pro-Sovietism, ethnic equality, integrity, peace, and construction) as one of the important tasks of the Anti-Imperialist League. At various mass gatherings, he used Marxist-Leninist viewpoints to systematically elaborate on the complete governance program of the Six Great Policies and their interrelated internal connections. He pointed out that, from the international and domestic situation at the time and the reality of Xinjiang, the "Six Great Policies" were in line with the aspirations and immediate interests of the people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang. The "Teaching Materials on the Six Great Policies" he compiled infused the Six Great Policies with strong vitality and appeal. Yu Xiusong also worked hard to use the Anti-Imperialist League as a channel to connect with the masses. Regularly held cadres' training classes, which were divided into primary and intermediate levels, and Yu Xiusong often lectured to the intermediate-level class. The courses offered at the time included Marxist philosophy, dialectical materialism, and the history of the CPC alliance. According to incomplete statistics, the Anti-Imperialist League held 20 sessions of training classes, with 34 classes in total, training over 2,200 members. These trained cadre members initially grasped some basic knowledge of Marxism, effectively promoting the development of various aspects of the work. Yu Xiusong also established The Anti-Imperialist Front as the official publication of the Anti-Imperialist League, which was published regularly every month, with each issue printing over 10,000 copies and distributed throughout Xinjiang. He personally wrote articles to actively promote Marxist-Leninism and the policies of the Communist Party of China. He also utilized various anniversaries to hold exhibitions, post slogans, distribute leaflets, and give street speeches for multiple forms of publicity. At the same time, he actively raised funds to open a cultural bookstore and appointed Baohan as the deputy president, primarily selling classic Marxist-Leninist works, the writings of the leaders of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on the national united front for resisting Japan, and other progressive books, injecting fresh air into the outdated, backward, and restrictive social life of Xinjiang at the time and meeting the needs of the masses and progressive youth for learning revolutionary theory. Through the joint efforts of CPC members like Yu Xiusong, Marxist-Leninism was widely spread across the north and south of the Tianshan Mountains, and branches of the Anti-Imperialist League were established throughout Xinjiang. Young teachers and students of all ethnic groups enthusiastically joined the league. P1-5
