What should I do if my child has loose stools?

Patient's question:

My daughter has been two and a half months old, and her bowel movements have always been normal. But in the past two days, her stool has been very loose, resembling egg white in consistency, and it has a fishy smell. By the way, since birth, my daughter has always experienced milk leakage. Usually, it's not much, but sometimes it's like a spray, resembling scrambled eggs in texture.

Doctor's answer:

Diarrhea: It is characterized by an increase in the frequency of bowel movements. Changes in stool characteristics. The most common causes of infant diarrhea are indigestion and intestinal inflammation. Generally speaking, if there are bubbles in a child's stool, it often indicates indigestion. In single-child households, indigestion can lead to excessive food residue in the stool. Fermented by intestinal bacteria, gas may mix with bubble stools. Additionally, bubble stools may also be related to children crying for too long, swallowing more air. If the child also has vomiting, the vomited milk has an acidic taste, or there are undigested milk clumps, or abdominal distension, the stool may have bubbles, no mucus or pus, only an increase in stool volume, the stool may be yellow or slightly green, pasty, or rotten, indicating indigestion.
