Features: Music aesthetics, classified as systematic musicology, has its own unique characteristics compared to other systematic musicology disciplines. It conducts research on the fundamental laws of musical art from the perspectives of aesthetics and art philosophy, making music aesthetics the foundational theory of the discipline of musicology. At the same time, as a part of musicology, it should fully value the research achievements of other musicology disciplines. While music aesthetics does not specifically study a particular musical work or a concert performance, it cannot be divorced from concrete musical phenomena in the process of seeking universal laws. For example: if we want to study the content of music, we must rely on musical works or the sound phenomena reflected through their performances, as well as the feelings people experience when listening to music. Otherwise, it cannot be said that we are truly studying the content of music. In summary, music aesthetics cannot be separated from aesthetics or musicology—it is an interdisciplinary field between the two.
