Patient's question:
NoDoctor's answer:
Hemolysis caused by fetal-maternal blood type incompatibility. The blood type antigens (such as Rh and ABO blood type antigens) inherited from the father are lacking in the mother. During delivery, these fetal blood type antigens enter the mother's body, causing her to produce antibodies against these antigens (IgG class). In subsequent pregnancies, these antibodies can cross the placenta into the fetal bloodstream, leading to hemolysis.
