What is the reason for diarrhea after changing formula?

Patient's question:

The infant in Huangyue has developed diarrhea when switching to a different brand of formula. Initially, there were adverse effects, with an increase in bowel movements, and later the stool turned green with bubbles. Is this a result of switching formula brands? After reverting to the original formula, the condition did not improve. What should be done?

Doctor's answer:

The baby's digestive system is relatively weak. If the method of changing formula is not appropriate, it may lead to diarrhea. The transition between cow's milk and formula should be done alternately and gradually. On the first day, 1/3 of the new formula is added to the original formula. After two or three days of adjustment, if the baby can accept it, the ratio will be adjusted to 1:1. Then, the ratio of the new and old formula will be 2:1. This should be continued for two or three days. Finally, the transition to the new formula will be completed. If the baby is also eating complementary foods, you can give them some carrots or apple puree to help alleviate the diarrhea caused by the new formula.
