How can you warm up when you are alone?

Author: Hong Feng
Publisher:
Publication Date: 2000-10-01
Features: To explore human nature, reflect on society, and analyze history—these are the responsibilities and missions of a writer. However, the recent surge in individualistic writing has diluted all of this. Excessive self-promotion has led to the frequency of name changes surpassing the actual improvement in textual quality, with hollow content needing to borrow equally hollow theories to justify itself. Hong Feng, one of the last generations of avant-garde novelists, published his essay collection You Alone Cannot Warm the World after a period of silence. It resembles short critiques written alongside novels, much like what Shi Fei said: Hong Feng wanted to "use paper and ink to understand life and death, to see clearly the human condition, and to continuously question that ordinary yet timeless question—the meaning of life." Perhaps it was also in search of a path for the return of the novel.
