Features: The book "Introduction to Urban Disasters," published by Tianjin University Press in March 2005, is a trial teaching material for higher education institutions in China and the first comprehensive textbook on urban disasters specifically written for urban planning and architecture professionals in the country. Through nearly three semesters of instruction by dozens of teachers and study by thousands of students, it was found that content on international urban disaster management and technology should be supplemented. The compilation of this book is an exploration in this direction. With the global unified campaign of the United Nations' "International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction" in the last decade of the 20th century, the author participated in the "Disaster Risk and Assessment" training organized by the United Nations in the National Risk Center of Sweden during the autumn and winter of 1994. This training expanded the author's understanding of disaster basic theories and the global perspective on disasters in the context of internationalization, building on past research in urban disaster prevention and mitigation. Subsequently, the author attended numerous domestic and international academic exchanges and research discussions, which further encouraged the author to study and learn from the disaster prevention and mitigation experiences of developed countries while diligently reading literature on disaster management, disaster technology, and disaster legislation. This book is the result of the author's research, and it is believed that readers will benefit from it.
