How is a newborn tetanus surgery performed?

Patient's question:

My baby has been restless and crying non-stop these past few days, with clenched jaw. I'm not sure what's wrong with him. I took him to a hospital, and they said it's likely tetanus. I want to consult about how the tetanus surgery is performed on newborns.

Doctor's answer:

Receiving a tetanus vaccine means receiving tetanus toxoid. It is mainly administered as the DTaP combination vaccine. The immunization schedule involves three consecutive doses at the baby's 3rd, 4th, and 5th months of life. Booster doses are given at age 2 and age 7 to establish basic immunity. Subsequently, if the person sustains an injury that may cause tetanus, they should receive another dose of toxoid immediately. The antitoxin titer in the serum rises rapidly within a few days.
