How to Identify Neonatal Jaundice

Patient's question:

The baby is 28 days old, and I feel a bit yellow. The baby was a bit yellow 3 days after birth, but it seemed to gradually fade. The family members said there was no jaundice, and it had never been tested for jaundice. However, I think the baby is still a bit yellow. The baby shows no signs of lethargy, so how can I check for jaundice?

Doctor's answer:

If the child has jaundice, the entire skin will appear yellow to the naked eye, just like how we look at our own skin. Generally, there are no other issues. If you are unsure, it's best to go to a good hospital and see a doctor. Use an instrument to measure the transcutaneous bilirubin level. If it's slightly elevated, oral jaundice-reducing medication may be needed. However, the most accurate method is still a blood test.
