Why are white blood cells low

Patient's question:

My child is 12 and a half years old. They often lack energy and seem like they want to sleep while sitting. They also don't talk much all day. A blood test revealed a WBC count of 3.4×10^9/L, and the doctor said it indicates leukopenia, which might mean there is inflammation in the body. Is that correct? What should I do? I look forward to your reply. Thank you!

Doctor's answer:

It may be caused by a viral infection or certain bacterial infections. Leukopenia is often seen after viral infections, and taking Vitamin B4, Li Xuesheng, and Diyu Shengbai tablets can help. In cases of low white blood cell count, it could be due to a viral infection or related to hyperthyroidism. It is recommended to have a follow-up examination. If there are no significant changes after the follow-up, then it may not be a concern.
