Patient's question:
Early symptoms of childhood epilepsy: The child is 5 years old and has absence seizures accompanied by smacking lips. It is possible that the previous injury during childbirth may have been involved, and the medication has not been very effective. Can children with epilepsy undergo surgery? What are the early symptoms of epilepsy?Doctor's answer:
The main clinical symptoms of epilepsy are as follows:1. Generalized tonic-clonic seizure (grand mal): Sudden loss of consciousness, followed by acupuncture and convulsions. It is usually accompanied by screaming, bruising of the skin, incontinence, bitten tongue, blisters or ulcers in the mouth, and dilated pupils. After tens of seconds or minutes, the seizure naturally stops and enters a state of drowsiness. Upon waking, there may be a brief dizziness, irritability, and fatigue, which cannot be restored during the seizure. If the seizure continues, those in a coma may be in a state of status epilepticus, which often threatens life.
2. Absence seizure (petit mal): Sudden interruption of mental activity, loss of consciousness, possibly associated with myoclonus or post-ictal. The seizure lasts from a few seconds to more than ten seconds. The electroencephalogram shows a synthesis of slow or sharp slow waves at a frequency of 3 Hz.
