How is hydrocephalus external to children treated

Patient's question:

Female, Age: 5 months
MIR examination showed external hydrocephalus, positive cytomegalovirus, intelligence testing, physical development tests, electroencephalogram, etc. were all normal!
Symptoms: Unsteady head posture, unwillingness to stand.
What treatment methods should be adopted? Will there be any sequelae?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, diagnosing external hydrocephalus is not accurate. Infants may develop brain malformation due to various reasons, causing the brain tissue and skull to not be fully filled, but it is not a vacuum either; it is filled with liquid, which is different from "hydrocephalus" caused by trauma or other reasons. These fluids promote brain development and do not require treatment. It is sufficient to wait and see for a period of time, such as around one year of age. If development is still behind at that time, treatment can be considered. Currently, there is no need for medication or treatment, and practices like acupuncture or massage should be avoided. The symptoms are not very clear, so it is difficult to say whether there will be any aftereffects. If treated early, recovery is possible, so there is no need to worry. Even if there are aftereffects, they should not be too severe and can be treated.
