Mazas Violin Studies: Op. 36, No. 2: Brilliant Studies

Author: (French) F. Mazas
Publisher:
Publication Date: 2000-07-01
Features: The French violinist F. Mazas (1782-1849) composed numerous duets and etudes for violin. Opus 36 is divided into three volumes: "Special Etudes," "Concert Etudes," and "For the Artist." This is an excellent and highly artistic exercise (textbook), which includes various techniques for both the left and right hands, as well as many exercises focused on vocal-style tone quality, timbre, and vibrato. When studying, it is essential to integrate technique with musical expression. Due to the development of violin performance science, the shortcomings of these etudes have become increasingly apparent in training. This is mainly reflected in the editing, such as bowing techniques, slurs, fingerings, position choices, shifting methods, extended and retained fingers, dynamics, and accent marks, which are often outdated and unscientific. While students can learn various techniques through these exercises, the aforementioned flaws may inadvertently cultivate many unscientific habits, posing significant difficulties for future studies. Considering these reasons, I have meticulously revised this (textbook) according to scientific playing methods to ensure it retains both training and practical value. This helps learners not only master various techniques but also adopt scientific playing methods and cultivate a scientific mindset.
