Does bleeding after pregnancy always lead to miscarriage?

Patient's question:

No

Doctor's answer:

Not necessarily. Approximately 1/10 of pregnancies may experience vaginal bleeding and abdominal pain, which are symptoms of threatened miscarriage. Among these cases, some individuals have normal embryonic development. These individuals can generally be treated and deliver at full term with normal fetal development and no abnormalities. The other part, however, involves poor embryonic development, which essentially means the embryo has died. On the surface, these cases appear as threatened miscarriage, but in reality, they are miscarriages that have not yet occurred. Do not blindly attempt to stop bleeding and support the pregnancy; the first step is to determine the viability of the embryo. This requires an ultrasound or color Doppler ultrasound, as urine and blood tests cannot clearly diagnose the viability of the embryo.
