In the game of the Rubik's Cube, Laike suddenly finds the cube growing larger. Curious, Laike enters the world of the Rubik's Cube. It turns out that the Magic Cube Mansion is composed of twenty-six "square kingdoms," including the Parent-in-a-Can Kingdom, the Glass Kingdom, the Train Kingdom, and the Constellation Oil Tank, among many other fascinating countries. Laike embarks on a series of magical adventures in these countries. This book also includes "God Has a Magnifying Glass."
Episode 1: The Glass City
Laike is a fifth-grade student, and his biggest problem is having nowhere to play after school. Laike lives in a large building. The neighbors rarely interact, and every door is always locked. Many residents have installed cold, unforgiving iron gates, giving the building a prison-like atmosphere. Laike has no brothers or sisters, and he longs for friends to play with. Once, he invited a boy from the neighborhood over to his house to play. After his father came home from work, he scolded Laike severely, scaring the boy so much that he never came back again. Laike's parents also refuse to play with him, treating him almost like a rabbit. Laike does nothing but eat every day, it seems. Whenever he asks his parents some strange questions, they always say, "This child must be crazy, always thinking nonsense!" Laike feels lonely.
One day after school, Laike comes home, does his homework, and has nothing to do. Bored, he picks up the Rubik's Cube on the table to play with. The cube looks simple—square and square—but every time Laike plays with it, he starts with confidence and ends in frustration. Just one more piece to align the top face, and Laike gets excited. He finds the piece and turns the cube with his right hand—oh no, the colors get mixed up again! Laike really wants to tear off all the colorful plastic stickers and redo them in matching colors, but what would be the point? "Today, I must conquer you," Laike vows as he keeps turning the cube. But the cube doesn’t care whether he makes a vow or not; it remains a colorful mess. Laike feels dizzy and throws the cube hard onto the table.
Eh, something strange! The cube is growing larger. Laike rubs his eyes, but it’s true! Soon, the cube stands in front of him like a building. "I’d better see what’s inside!" Laike whispers to himself and walks up to the cube, peeling a corner of the white plastic sticker on the lower right piece. Laike gasps in delight—it’s a city! With no hesitation, he dives right in.
