Is the cervical erosion severe?

Patient's question:

No

Doctor's answer:

Hello, the cervical erosion you mentioned is actually cervical erosion: Due to the stimulation of inflammatory secretions, the squamous epithelial cells of the cervical canal external orifice fall off and are covered by proliferated columnar epithelium. The surface appears bright red, smooth, or uneven in height, and this change is referred to as "cervical erosion." Women with cervical erosion have a cervical cancer incidence rate of 0.73%, significantly higher than the 0.1% rate among those without cervical erosion. A 1972–1976 mass survey in Beijing found that the incidence of cervical cancer among women with erosion was twice as high as that among women without erosion. Under long-term chronic inflammation stimulation, the proliferated columnar epithelium from the cervical canal may develop atypical hyperplasia. If not treated promptly, a portion of these cases may eventually progress to cancer, although this transformation process is relatively slow.
