Features: In the preface of the "New Concept Reading" series, we emphasized the issue of "personalized reading." This set of categorized reading materials will take a different angle to discuss "free reading." Free reading refers to readers engaging in autonomous reading under relatively relaxed conditions, based on their own needs, interests, and hobbies. Free reading is a form of personalized reading. Mr. Lu Xun's concept of "browsing casually" is an example of free reading. The relationship between reading accumulation and the improvement of writing skills is also significant. Extensive reading can inspire the mind, broaden horizons, activate thinking, accumulate materials, and gradually cultivate a refined sense of language. It helps master the expression methods of various genres and styles, thereby naturally enhancing writing skills. Relying on "last-minute cramming" or copying others' writing templates cannot replace the accumulation of reading or fundamentally improve writing skills, nor can it guarantee success in exam essays. Therefore, the key to learning writing lies in reading accumulation. To meet the needs of junior high school students for free reading and help them complete the extracurricular reading tasks stipulated by the curriculum standards, while also considering the heavy academic workload and tight schedules of students, we have compiled this series of books. The features of this series are short passages: modern texts are approximately 1,000 words, ancient texts are mostly fragments of around 100 words, and ancient poems are even shorter. These texts can be read in just a few minutes or even one or two minutes. Spare time before meals or after classes can be used for reading.
