What are the early symptoms of intellectual disability

Patient's question:

My child has always had poor reaction time, poor memory, and low intelligence since childhood. Their simple thinking prevents them from attending school normally. My friend said it might be due to low intelligence. Could you please tell me what are the initial symptoms of low intelligence?

Doctor's answer:

Symptoms of Intellectual Disability:
1. Unable to see or hear. At 6 months, the child still does not notice when adults talk to them. Poor attention to people and objects around them, with vacant eyes. In addition to feeding difficulties, infants with intellectual disability often experience nausea and vomiting when given solid foods like rice or steamed buns at 6-8 months. They have poor chewing ability and frequently choke.
2. Never laughs. Normal infants start laughing at 2 months and can laugh loudly at 4 months when amused. However, children with intellectual disability rarely laugh or only engage in aimless, foolish giggling.
3. Delayed language and developmental growth.
