Did the baby get hand, foot, and mouth disease?

Patient's question:

My child has been constantly having a runny nose, crying, and being restless. They have also developed some red rashes and have been experiencing fever and coughing. We took them to the hospital, and the doctor prescribed some medication. After taking the medicine at home, it worked temporarily, but the symptoms returned after a short while. Could my baby have hand, foot, and mouth disease?

Doctor's answer:

These symptoms are somewhat similar to those of hand, foot, and mouth disease, because the symptoms of hand, foot, and mouth disease are not always very obvious. Some symptoms resemble those of a cold, such as the appearance of rashes on the hands, feet, and buttocks, as well as fever. You should still take the child to the hospital for a check-up and receive symptomatic treatment. Additionally, the child should drink more water and have their temperature monitored. If the temperature is high, exceeding 38.5 degrees Celsius, fever-reducing medication should be used.
