Is there any harm in taking a baby for an X-ray?

Patient's question:

Our baby had 3 cases of intussusception at 8.5 months, 9 months, and 14 months. Each time, it was treated with air enema under X-ray exposure. This must be much larger than a single chest X-ray dose because the procedure takes longer, and two additional X-rays are required after the treatment to confirm that it has passed. Now we are very concerned about the impact on the baby.

Doctor's answer:

X-rays have a certain destructive effect on biological cells. Therefore, when the human body is exposed to X-rays, it will produce certain physiological responses. Overexposure can cause tissue damage, affect physiological functions, and even endanger life. However, appropriate radiation levels do not affect human health. Since medical personnel are conducting examinations, the dosage for X-ray fluoroscopy and photography is very small. Only within the safe dosage range, the radiation dose for X-ray examinations is very low. Even if taken twice, it will not be a problem.
