Features: This set of Zhonghua Gushi (Chinese Stories) is a re-edited and re-published version based on the original Zhonghua Gushi published by Zhonghua Book Company in 1941. The original Zhonghua Gushi consisted of twelve volumes, with stories selected from ancient Chinese classics, including the Five Classics, historical records, philosophical works, and literary collections. The content includes mythical legends, historical tales, and anecdotes of famous figures. During the selection process, to lower the reading difficulty, the editors made appropriate modifications to the text of some stories. The newly published Zhonghua Gushi remains in twelve volumes. Each story is divided into four parts: the original text, annotations, translation, and comments, all presented in simplified horizontal characters. Additionally, to meet the needs of some readers, all the original illustrations and traditional vertical-character text are retained. In some cases, the text and sources in the original stories have been adjusted:
1. Places with obvious errors have been corrected. For example, in the story "Budao Zhemen" (Blocking the Door with a Sword) in Volume 11, "Zhang Yun" was corrected to "Zhang Yun" after verification; in "Fengfeng Jutuo" (The Storm Lifts the Bed) in Volume 3, "Huang Ding" was corrected to "Wang Ding." The source of "Qin Hui's Treachery" in Volume 2 should be the History of Song Dynasty, but the original book mistakenly listed it as Book of Song Dynasty, which has been corrected.
2. Stories selected from the Twenty-Four Histories now uniformly use the new edition of Zhonghua Book Company. For instance, stories from the Records of the Three Kingdoms have been uniformly revised to Records of the Three Kingdoms·Wei Shu, Records of the Three Kingdoms·Shu Shu, and Records of the Three Kingdoms·Wu Shu; Early Han Dynasty History, History of Tang Dynasty, and History of Jin Dynasty have been uniformly changed to Han Dynasty History, Tang Dynasty History, and Jin Dynasty History, etc.
3. Some unsuitable and repetitive stories from the original Zhonghua Gushi have been removed. In Volume 2, "Zhu Hai Cengmu Shihu" (Zhu Hai's Anger at the Tiger) is repetitive with the story in Volume 11, "Cengmu Shihu," and has been deleted. In Volume 3, "Shi Jia" (Toothpick Addiction) and "Biyu Zhuliang" (Fishing to Help with Food) in Volume 7 are of little educational value for young people and have also been removed.
